University of Redlands

Among the Best

The University of Redlands, a private liberal arts and sciences university, is continually ranked “Among the Best” universities and repeatedly earns high marks from today’s prominent college rankings.

About University of Redlands

The University of Redlands is a private, independent University centrally located from the beaches, mountains and desert in the heart of southern California.  Recognized for having one of the highest study abroad participation rates among our peers, Redlands students travel the world, choosing from more than 100 programs.  Redlands Community Service Learning program receives national acclaim each year as our students complete over 120,000 hours of public service annually around the world.  Redlands offers more than 50 undergraduate programs as well as graduate programs in business, communicative disorders, education, geographic information systems and music.   The University blends liberal arts and professional programs, applied and theoretical study, traditional majors and self-designed contracts for graduation.  For a select group of highly motivated, self-driven students, the progressive Johnston Center for Integrative Studies allows such inclined undergraduates to negotiate their own course of study with a faculty/peer committee, receiving narrative evaluations rather than letter grades.  The Master of Science in Geographic Information Systems program is an intensive, one-year residential program that draws international acclaim, in part due to the close collaboration with Redlands-based Esri, the world’s leading GIS company.

For undergraduates, the University has one of the highest study abroad participation rates among its peers; a NCAA Division III athletic program contributes to the many extracurricular opportunities available; students complete more than 120,000 hours of public service annually. The distinctive Johnston Center for Integrative Studies enables self-motivated undergraduates to negotiate their own interdisciplinary course of study with a faculty/peer committee. In addition to an award-winning 160-acre campus in Redlands featuring architectural landmarks and more than 1,700 trees, the University includes seven regional locations, providing innovative programs at convenient places and times for working adults. Surveys show that generations of alumni have found that the University, established in 1907, prepared them well for career success and lifelong learning.

Schools within the University

High school and transfer students will be interested in the College of Arts and Sciences, which is a vibrant community of students and faculty. In addition, two professional schools focus on working adults: the School of Education and the School of Business.

The university’s beautiful residential campus is located in the City of Redlands in Southern California, sitting below the surrounding mountainside, which provides for a gorgeous back-drop behind the school’s powerful architecture. When in search for entertainment the university is only a few minutes from downtown Redlands and only a short hour to the beach, mountains, and theme parks, such as Disneyland.

Opportunities to become involved and make a difference abound at the University of Redlands. Dozens of clubs and organizations-from Ultimate Frisbee to fraternities- offer students ways to explore their interests and build new friendships. Beyond campus, our students contribute more than 65,000 hours of community service every year at neighborhood schools, local outreach centers, and across the globe.
