Veteran Municipal Attorney Robert Hansen Hired by City of Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Former Moreno Valley City Attorney Robert Hansen, who retired from that job in July, is coming out of retirement to work as a Deputy City Attorney in Riverside.

Hansen has 25 years of experience as an attorney, including 16 in the Moreno Valley City Attorney’s Office, where he served as City Attorney for four years until his retirement. Since his retirement, Hansen has operated his own law office, working as special counsel. He starts in Riverside on Oct. 1.

“Bob Hansen brings a wealth of municipal law experience to Riverside,” said Riverside City Attorney Gregory P. Priamos. “He will assist us in handling more litigation matters in-house and also work on land use, planning and neighborhood livability issues.”

Hansen is active in the City Attorneys Department of the League of California Cities. He is a past member and chairperson of the League’s Legal Advocacy Committee.

Hansen’s accomplishments include drafting ordinances to regulate massage providers and medical marijuana dispensaries; reducing his department’s budget by 20 percent while maintaining service levels; and providing staff training in areas such as contracts, code compliance and ethics.

Prior to starting in Moreno Valley in 1997, Hansen worked at Klute and Pennell in San Bernardino; Tuverson and Hillyard in Palm Springs; and Fidler and Bell in Los Angeles. A graduate of Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles, Hansen earned his undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University.

“He is an individual with great integrity and professionalism,” Priamos said. “He will be a great fit for this office.”
