This summer, the California State University, San Bernardino College of Extended Learning offers a helpful workshop for elementary school teachers, “Helping Parents Be Partners in Their Children’s Literacy.” Teachers will be given a variety of strategies for enlisting parents’ help and support in their children’s literacy. When parents are involved, they can work with teachers on family reading and provide a framework that helps students learn to read.
This course is one of 10 that comprise the College of Extended Learning’s Certificate in Primary Reading Development. The program was designed in cooperation with the CSUSB College of Education and the San Bernardino County Superintendent of
Schools Office. It is based on the California English Language Art Framework and addresses the No Child Left Behind legislation.
“Helping Parents Be Partners in Their Children’s Literacy” will be held on Sat., Aug. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Cal State, San Bernardino’s Yasuda Center. The course fee is $140, which includes class materials and one (1) unit of university credit. Those who enroll in two or more eligible education courses at the same time will receive a 10 percent discount on each. To register for this class, contact Andrew German at (909) 537-3991.
