Workshop, Victorian Viewing Boxes

Families are invited to the San Bernardino County Museum for a workshop on “Victorian Viewing Boxes” on Sunday, September 26, from 1 to 4pm. This workshop is free with paid museum admission but reservations are required as space is limited.

“What did families do for entertainment before TV, movies, and computer games?” asked Curator of Education Jolene Redvale. “Do you remember Viewmasters and slideshows? Well, in Victorian times, as entertainment, folks enjoyed viewing miniature scenes inside paper boxes. In this workshop, your family will be able to design and create viewing boxes that have your own personal family touch.”

This workshop is best for family members ages 6 and up. However, extra activities will be available for younger children. For more information or make reservations, call (909) 307-2669 ext. 256. This Arts, Naturally program, is sponsored in part by the James Irvine Foundation.

The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays and holiday Mondays from 9am to 5pm. Admission is $8 (adult), $6 (military or senior), $5 (student) and $4 (child aged 5 to 12). Children under five and Museum Association members are admitted free. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org.

The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities.
