Chaffey College Superintendent/President Receives National CEO Award

Rancho Cucamonga, CA – The Association of Community College Trustees named Chaffey College Superintendent/President Dr. Henry D. Shannon the winner of the national 2018 Marie Y. Martin Chief Executive Officer Award. He was previously honored as winner of the award at the regional level.

Chaffey College Governing Board President Kathleen Brugger nominated Shannon for the award, describing him as an outstanding and revered leader who has helped bring numerous achievements and points of pride to Chaffey College.

“He is a mentor for numerous individuals, a tireless advocate for students who have been historically underserved and a nationally-recognized community college leader who leads with character and conviction,” Brugger said.

Shannon accepted the award at the ACCT Leadership Congress on Oct. 26 in New York.

“I feel humbled to be recognized by the Association of Community College Trustees for my work as a higher education leader,” Shannon said. “This event drew highly-respected faculty and staff from around the country and their accomplishments are just as worthy of praise. I felt honored to be in such great company.”

The ACCT awards recognize educational leaders who have made a significant impact on two-year colleges at the local, state or national level.

Shannon has spearheaded numerous successful initiatives during his time at Chaffey College. They have led to honors and awards such as the $1 million Chancellor’s Office Innovation Award in 2018, the $2.6 million Title V Service Institution Grant and a top 10 national placement by the Aspen Institute for Community College Excellence.

His influence reaches to a local, state and national level through his service on various boards such as the American Association of Community Colleges, the Community College League of California and the Alliance for Education of San Bernardino County.
