Discussing Buildable Segments for When Funding is Available
Rancho Cucamonga, Ca – The City Council and the Park and Recreation Commission invite the community to “reVISION” the Central Park Master Plan. Since 1987 there have been two updates to the Central Park Master Plan. Each version was developed to meet the needs and wants of the community at the time, each envisioning 30 acre developments, but due to economic downturns and the expense of such large improvements, portions of these plans never came to fruition. This update process will provide an opportunity for community input to “reVISION” buildable segments of space and amenities in 3-10 acre increments for a financially and environmentally responsible park plan.
The elimination of Redevelopment Agencies in 2011 took $100 million, saved over 25 years, from the City of Rancho Cucamonga that had been identified for projects such as construction of Central Park improvements. These funds were taken by the State of California and will not be returned. Funding is NOT currently available for building on the site, however, city officials are looking to have an updated Master Plan created with the community’s involvement to be ready for potential funding opportunities and grants in the future; sharing “Without a Vision there can be no Plan.”
The community is invited to participate in two community surveys over the next two months and three workshops, planned to build upon each other, with the first workshop scheduled for August 15th, the second for September 19th and the third on October 9th. All Community Workshops will be held at Goldy S. Lewis Community Center from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
“We understand that this is and has been an important topic in the community for decades,” said Zachary Mueting, Principal Landscape Architect with RJM Design Group. “We encourage residents to be active in the Master Plan update process by attending the workshops and completing the surveys” he said.
The Park and Recreation Commission will be taking a lead in outreach to the community and encouraging community participation in sharing ideas and thoughts on this important effort. The updated Rancho Cucamonga Central Park Master Plan is projected to be presented to City Council for consideration in early spring of 2018.
