Chang to help spearhead integration of primary care and behavioral health care

Moreno Valley, Ca. — Dr. Matthew Chang has been named the new director of RUHS Behavioral Health.  He replaces former Director Steve Steinberg, who retired earlier this month after 25 years with the department.

Before being appointed to the department’s top post, Chang had been serving as medical director for RUHS Behavioral Health since 2016. He is a board certified child/adolescent forensic psychiatrist. Chang completed his residency at Harbor UCLA and his fellowship at the University of Colorado at Denver.

“I am humbled and honored to be working alongside such an outstanding team of mental health and peer professionals,” Chang said. “We will continue to focus on expanding access to quality services and ensuring long-term sustainability for programs that serve the most severely mentally ill.”

Chang said RUHS would also continue its push to integrate behavioral health services into the primary care setting and to increase access to seamless, patient-centered services.

“We will also be focusing on the expansion of children’s services and substance abuse programming,” Chang said.

RUHS Behavioral Health is part of Riverside University Health System, which also includes the departments of Community Health Clinics, Public Health and the 439-bed Medical Center in Moreno Valley. RUHS Behavioral Health provides clinical and substance abuse services to more than 60,000 people annually in the nation’s tenth most populous county.  It operates 50 clinic sites across Riverside County including three mental health urgent care centers and three transitional age youth centers, serving young adults between the ages of 16 and 25.  To learn more visit www.rcdmh.org
