The celebration will begin with comments from city officials on the value of our parks and trees. As part of the comments, the City will receive a “Tree City USA” award from the Arbor Day Foundation.
The Tree City USA award is given to communities who work to plant and maintain healthy urban forests. “The award reflects a commitment to the value of our city trees as an integral part of a high quality of life,” said Dean.
Over 200 third graders from Canyon Crest and Shadow Hills Elementary Schools will attend the celebration and participate in several hands-on, earth friendly crafts and activities.
The Nature Center will also have a live animal demonstration from the Animal Guys, which will feature exotic animals from all over the world.
“Arbor Day provides a venue to appreciate all our city does to maintain a healthy urban forest, as well as an opportunity to celebrate the value of trees, something we often take for granted,” said Rick Dean, Community Services Coordinator at the Nature Center.
