Railroad Crossing Closure Nov. 7-11 at Chicago and Marlborough avenues

Track improvements by BNSF Railway will close crossing between 6 a.m. Nov. 7 and 5 p.m. Nov. 11

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – BNSF Railway is planning a five-day closure of the railroad crossing at Chicago Avenue in northeast Riverside so the railroad can improve the tracks there.

The crossing will be closed from Monday, Nov. 7 at 6:00 a.m. until Friday, Nov. 11, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. including when night work is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. until 4:00 a.m. each night. Motorists should follow detour signs or avoid the area entirely, if possible.

BNSF will remove each track section and replace it with new track, as well as crossing planks to match the existing road. The work is part of BNSF’s $180 million capital commitment in California in 2016 that is primarily focused on maintenance projects that help ensure BNSF continues to operate a safe and reliable rail network.

The largest component of this year’s capital plan will be for replacing and upgrading rail, rail ties and ballast, which are the main components for the tracks on which BNSF trains operate.  Regular maintenance of the railroad allows BNSF to keep its network infrastructure in optimal condition.

Please drive cautiously and safely around the work zone because workers and equipment will be present. Advanced warning signs will be placed to inform motorists of lane closures. Plan ahead and rideshare if possible.
