Fontana: Public Hearing For City Council Election Districts

Fontana, Calif. – The City of Fontana is holding a Public Hearing for City Council Election Districts on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the Grover W. Taylor Council Chambers located at 8353 Sierra Avenue. Members of the public are encouraged to review the three proposed election district maps available online and provide feedback during the public hearing.

The public hearing on July 25, 2017 will take place during the regularly scheduled Fontana City Council Meeting. Previous public hearings took place in March, April and June. The public will have an opportunity to share their comments and concerns regarding the draft maps and the proposed sequence of elections.

Earlier this year, the Fontana City Council adopted a Resolution of Intention that resolved to create four election districts. The move toward election districts was prompted after the City of Fontana received a letter from an attorney asking for a voluntary change to election districts from the current at-large election system. Fontana is among a long list of California cities making the voluntary change to avoid costly lawsuits.

City Council will provide direction on the preferred District Map to include in a draft ordinance based on the comments received at the public hearing.
