Fontana, Calif.- In honor of Earth Day on April 22, 2017, the City of Fontana is inviting community residents to stop by the Household Hazardous Waste Facility located at 16454 Orange Way between 8:00 a.m. – noon to recycle their batteries and cellphones. Properly disposing of these items will keep them out of the local landfills and ensure the by-products are recycled and repurposed to create new products such as batteries, concrete and stainless steel.
The Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program handles the proper disposal of common household products that contain chemicals that can not be disposed of in landfills and poured down the drain. These chemicals can pollute our air, property and drinking water as well as harm our children, pets and local wildlife. Click here to see list of accepted items.
The Household Hazardous Waste collection occurs every Saturday in Fontana, with the exception of major holiday weekends and inclement weather. The service is only available for Fontana residents. Proof of residency is required by bringing a copy of the Burrtec trash bill. If residents rent and do not have a trash bill, they can provide their I.D. that includes their address. The staff has listings of Fontana apartments and multifamily housing that they can use to verify the person’s residency. Residents are limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per event. Containers may not exceed five gallons and no business waste is accepted.
