Inland Empire United Way Holds Annual Challenge for Children’s Gala to Recognize Philanthropy and Community Impact in Areas of Health, Education, and Financial Stability

Pomona, Ca. – The Inland Empire United Way (IEUW) will hold its 8th Annual Challenge for Children Gala on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the Sheraton Fairplex Conference Center located at 601 McKinley Avenue in Pomona. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction, signature cocktails, VIP lounge, and cigar bar; followed by dinner, program, and entertainment provided by Hollywood Revisited, beginning promptly at 7:15 p.m. The event is being proudly sponsored by UPS.

The theme for this year’s event is Old Hollywood. “We really wanted to take the gala in a new and exciting direction this year. Giving attendees a fun opportunity to wear black tie attire and dress in garb reminiscent of the 1920’s,” says Inland Empire United Way President and CEO, Dr. Felita Jones. We’ve all been to a number of these events saddled with lengthy speeches and fan-fare dinner selections. “This year, we worked with a chef to curate a timeless menu reminiscent of the era, and focused on entertainment and performances designed to rouse and energize attendees. We’re so excited to transport our guests for one-night only back to Tinseltown! We’re also equally excited to recognize four superb businesses and organizations that have partnered with IEUW to help break the cycle of poverty and drive about better outcomes for both families and children within the Inland Empire.”

Inland Empire United Way mission is to engage the community to improve the lives and futures of those in need by strategically investing in health, education and financial stability. As an independent 501(c)(3), and unlike the traditional United Way model, IEUW is directly and actively engaged in the community, operating several direct service programs focused on providing access to the economically underprivileged, underserved and homeless, and moving that population from poverty to self-sufficiency.  Within the Inland Empire United Way’s service region, 1 in 4 children live in poverty. They are at-risk of homelessness, face food insecurities, and have poorer academic performance as a result.  Since 1992, Inland Empire United Way has been on the forefront of community change, working to break the cycle of poverty in the Inland Empire to make it a better place for all to live and thrive.

Inland Empire Health Plan will be honored with the Health Trailblazer Award; University of La Verne will receive the Education Pioneer Award; Bank of America will be awarded the Financial Torchbearer Award. The night’s sponsor UPS, will receive the Community Champion of the Year Award for its unwavering commitment to IEUW and its initiatives within the areas of Health, Education and Financial Stability.
