Path of Life Ministries Gets Funded to Cure Homelessness

Path of Life Ministries Receives $85,000 Grant From San Manuel To Increase Homeless Employment Program Services

RIVERSIDE, CA  – It takes more than a house to cure homelessness.  That’s why San Manuel Band of Mission Indians has invested in the Path of Life Ministries Employment Pipeline…Again!  This time, the $85,000 grant will give homeless participants one-on-one support to get past their barriers and into a job.

The Path of Life Ministries Employment Pipeline has also received a $25,000 grant from SoCal Environmental Justice Alliance to start a Warehouse Training Program for their homeless clients.  Partners enlisted to provide services include Smooth Transitions, Triple A Forklift, and Innovative Safety Solutions. The Employment Pipeline will build the employment relationships for job placement after training while the participants work on GED’s and occupational knowledge.

Unemployed homeless adults have obstacles to employment that have to be overcome before they can make use the normal workforce development channels. Transportation, proper attire, and a permanent address are the basics of getting hired. But what if you haven’t ever worked or have been homeless for years?  This funding will allow a newly hired Path of Life Employment Navigator to work directly with the participant to help them learn the process, language, and actions to get employed and to coach them after to help them remain employed. The Employment Pipeline will also develop employer training to increase their understanding of what it takes to recover from the trauma of homelessness and become productive.

“Contrary to what many may believe, we do provide shelter for homeless people who are employed.  However, most of our clients aren’t working and have a number of barriers to employment; transportation and clothing are the simplest problems to solve. San Manuel is investing in helping the get over the higher hurdles,” states Damien O’Farrell, CEO for Path of Life Ministries.
