2020 Census holds recruitment kickoff event Thursday Community invited to Riverside County Workforce Development Center

Riverside, CA – The U.S. Census is hiring hundreds of workers in Southern California and community members are invited to learn more at a kickoff event this Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Workforce Development Center in Riverside.

Officials from the Census Bureau’s Los Angeles Regional Census Center along with County of Riverside staff will share information about how to apply for the many different kinds of Census jobs that will be available beginning in January 2019. The kickoff will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Riverside County Workforce Development Center, America’s Job Center of California, at 1325 Spruce St., Riverside.

“We want everyone in Riverside and San Bernardino counties and surrounding areas to know that the Census Bureau is hiring hundreds of workers for temporary jobs,” said Mayra Marrufo, an Eastvale resident and Census recruiting manager for Inland Southern California and Orange and San Diego counties. “Currently we are hiring for a variety of jobs, including census listers for address canvassing, recruiting assistants, office staff, and supervisory staff.”

Marrufo first worked for the Census when she needed a second job in 2009 while going through a divorce with three young children. She appreciated the flexibility of the job and the supplemental income, so she jumped at the chance when the Census announced it was hiring again. With a background in human resources and desire to connect to her community, Marrufo left her Los Angeles-based job and started work in September with the Census. In her new role she can help families and individuals in the community make a good living.

Job seekers can receive assistance with their online applications at the Workforce Development Center or can apply on their own at www.census.gov/fieldjobs for manager jobs and www.2020census.gov/jobs for office support and field positions. Career coaches will be available Thursday to assist or by appointment at the jobseekers’ convenience.

The Census is opening 248 offices nationwide for a range of positions, including recruiting assistants, office operations supervisors, clerks, census field supervisors and census takers. Some of the jobs offer flexible hours and opportunities to work from home. The Census will open offices in both Riverside and Palm Desert.

Applicants will be placed in an applicant pool for 2020 Census field positions and will be contacted as work becomes available in their area.
