APPA and PWP Conclude ACDC12 Hybrid Solar Air Conditioner DEED Study with Webinar

Loma Linda, CAD48 Energy Management and Pasadena Water & Power conclude their hybrid solar heat pump study with an American Public Power Association webinar.

Pasadena Water and Power, (PWP) and D48 recently concluded their ACDC12 hybrid solar heat pump study with a webinar through the American Public Power Association’s, (APPA) Demonstration of Energy & Efficiency Developments, (DEED) grant program.

APPA’s DEED grant allowed PWP to third party monitor and report the results on the 1-Ton ACDC12 which uses solar power during the day with utility power mixed in as needed. At night and in low light the ACDC12 seamlessly transitions into a 22-SEER split heat pump system.

Key results from the DEED study found that the grid independent ACDC12 solar component can use up to 20-Amps of direct current PV input and that this unique combination of direct current and alternate current power resulted in a COP of up to 7.5 in cooling mode. Other findings included the need to place the ACDC12 system in 400-800 square foot spaces to avoid under sizing, that the best application is small commercial and the system’s light AC Amp demand blends well with power panels nearing capacity.
