Friends of the Big Bear Valley Library
The Friends of the Big Bear Valley Library will be holding the annual membership meeting and a special program, featuring James C. Ramos, Chairman, San Manuel Band of Serrano Mission Indians on Saturday, June 11, 2011, 2 PM
Following a brief business meeting and election of the 2011/12 Board of Directors, Chairman Ramos, will speak about the history of the Serrano Indian cultural heritage in Big Bear Valley.
As the first Native American, Chairman Ramos was appointed to the State Board of Education by Governor Brown. He is also a member of the San Bernardino College Board of Trustees, serving in his second term following his reelection in 2010.
Chairman Ramos earned a BA degree from Cal. State Universiy in San Bernardino and a Masters degree from Redlands University. In 2009, he received an honorary doctorate degree from Northern Arizona University. The program wil be held at the Big Bear Lake Branch Library,40930 Garstin Drive, Big Bear Lake. It is open to the general public. There is no admissison charge and reservations are not required, so early arrival is advised.
