The University of Redlands – Creative Writing Department and Campus Diversity and Inclusion are pleased to present the upcoming Visiting Writers Series event, a reading by two writers from Sudden Fiction Latino, Manuel Muñoz and Lisa Alvarez.

Manuel Muñoz is the author of two collections of short stories: Zigzagger and The Faith Healer of Olive Avenue, which was shortlisted for the 2007 Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award. His work has appeared in numerous publications, including the New York Times, Edinburgh Review, and Boston Review, and the anthology Sudden Fiction Latino. His first novel, What You See in the Dark, is scheduled for publication in March 2011. An assistant professor in the creative writing program at the University of Arizona, Muñoz currently resides in Tucson.

In addition to Sudden Fiction, Lisa Alvarez has published essays and short stories in many journals, including the Los Angeles Times, OC Weekly, and Santa Monica Review, as well as the anthologies Lotusland and Geography of Rage: Remembering the Los Angeles Riots of 1992. She was an editor for Writers Workshop in a Book: The Community of Writers on the Art of Fiction, and is now co-director of the Community of Writers summer conference at Squaw Valley. Alvarez lives in Orange Country and teaches English at Irvine Valley College.

Please join us for a reading by Manuel Muñoz and Liza Alvarez on Thursday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m. in Hall of Letters 100, to be followed by a reception and book-signing with the authors. This event is free and open to the public.

The final event of the Visiting Writers Series for Spring 2001 will be the annual Redlands Review/Senior Portfolio student reading on April 14.
