MSJC, Murrieta Valley Unified Partner to Offer Classes
Murrieta, CA – Mt. San Jacinto College and Murrieta Valley Unified School District have partnered for the college to use eight classrooms at Murrieta Valley High School to offer MVUSD high school students college courses over the next three years.
The goal is to develop a seamless pathway from high school to community college for career education or preparation for transfer, to improve high school graduation rates, and help high school students achieve college and career readiness.
“This is a win-win all around,” said MSJC Superintendent/President Dr. Roger Schultz. “Anything we can do to ease high school students’ transition to the college learning environment will improve their chances of academic success. We are grateful for the forward-thinking leadership at Murrieta Valley Unified, who made this possible by providing space.”
MSJC will have use of the eight Murrieta Valley High School classrooms at no charge for three years starting July 1, 2019, and ending June 30, 2022.
“MSJC has been an incredible partner for the Murrieta Valley USD,” said MVUSD Superintendent Patrick Kelley. “We are proud to host classrooms at Murrieta Valley High School and know this type of program design will benefit students. This is a great opportunity to access rigorous coursework while getting a head start on college and reducing future tuition costs. We’re grateful to MSJC and this partnership to bring greater options to our students and the entire community.”
The partnership enables MVUSD high school students with grade point averages (GPA) of 3.0 or higher to enroll in MSJC courses as early as their junior year. The courses will count for both learning institutions. Eligible students will complete high school course graduation requirements while simultaneously earning college credit. Interested students should contact their high school sites for more information.
The initial coursework to be offered at the MSJC Murrieta Annex Campus in Fall 2019 will be:
- English 101 Freshman Composition (4 units): This General Education Course fulfills the first college English Class for University of California and California State Universities.
