Ontario Museum of History & Art Looking for Docents
2016 marks the City of Ontario’s 125th Anniversary since its incorporation on December 10, 1891. Help celebrate Ontario’s 125th Anniversary as a docent at the Ontario Museum of History & Art by sharing our rich history and heritage of community, culture, and commerce with visitors.
The museum is currently looking for volunteers to participate in its docent training program that begins in April. Docents provide interactive group learning experiences through guided tours of museum exhibits and presentations at local schools and community centers. No previous background in art or history is required, just a passion for learning and interacting with visitors. The ability to speak a language other than English is a plus. The benefits of becoming a docent include: building relationships with people who share a common interest, becoming an active participant in the community, and taking behind-the-scenes field trips to destinations around the City of Ontario.
Docents play an essential role at the Ontario Museum of History & Art through their interactions with visitors. Our docents have been key in providing tours for 1,200 students annually. Tours are projected to increase to over 2,000 students a year, making the role of docents even greater. Join us at one of the following informational sessions to learn more about the docent program:
