Tribute Concert to Recapture Atmosphere of Motown Era
San Bernardino, CA — It was 1994 the last time the Temptations performed at the National Orange Show during the 79th annual National Orange Show Fair in San Bernardino. Over the years, Motown greats such as Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight, Diana Ross and even the Jackson 5—in what is believed to be their first California appearance when they opened for Diana Ross in 1969—all held major performances at the National Orange Show before the Swing Auditorium burned down in 1981.
Artelea Burgess, a long time resident and owner of Artelea’s Hair Concern in San Bernardino, attended many concerts at the Orange Show over the years. “I loved the music,” Artelea remembers, “It was good, clean love songs—the kind that actually meant something.”
Decades later, Garrett Management Group hopes to recapture some of these memories with a Motown Tribute at the National Orange Show Events Center’s Orange Pavilion on December 11, 2010. The event will include a full evening of live tribute performances featuring the sounds of The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, and the Temptations, as well as an optional full course holiday dinner.
“The nostalgia of the holidays is the perfect setting for this kind of event,” commented Al Garrett, Managing Partner of Garrett Management Group. “The songs and choreography will take you back to the concerts that used to have audiences screaming and dancing in the aisles.”
Tickets to “Motown Tribute for the Holiday Season” can be purchased in the National Orange Show Lobby or at Groove Time Music Brokers. The Cost is $50 per person or $90 per couple for dinner and the show (advance reservations only), or $25 per person for the show only.
