‘Spend a Little Time’ with Sweet Charity at the Candlelight Pavilion
CLAREMONT, CA— Meet Charity Hope Valentine, the girl who wanted to be loved! While working at the seedy Fandango ballroom, Charity finds it difficult to find the man of her dreams, but being the eternal optimist, she stays sweet and hopeful that someday her ideal man will materialize. With book by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields and Bob Fosse-inspired dances, this groovy 1960’s musical from Broadway’s golden age is not to be missed! Familiar songs include “Big Spender,” “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” “There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This,” “I’m a Brass Band,” “Baby, Dream Your Dream,” and “Rhythm of Life.”
Sweet Charity is a romantic comedy based on the life of “Charity Hope Valentine,” a loveable lady who wears her heart on her sleeve and has had her fair share of heartaches. All she wants out of life is to be loved. ‘Sweet Charity’ opened on Broadway in 1966, and it is filled with some of the greatest musical theatre songs of its time. The original show was directed and choreographed by the world famous Bob Fosse, and in 1969 he took the show from stage to screen, with Shirley MacLaine playing the role of Charity.
