Local Student Kamaal Ture' Thomas Receives Link's Achiever Scholarship
LOCAL STUDENT KAMAAL TURE’ THOMAS RECEIVES LINK’S ACHIEVER SCHOLARSHIP
Summit High School student Recognized for superior academic achievement By The Angel City Chapter of The Links, Incorporated
LOS ANGELES, CA – April 14, 2012 – The Angel City Chapter of The Links, Incorporated today announced that Summit High School student Kamaal Ture’ Thomas from Fontana, CA, has been selected as the fourth largest scholarship out of 54 award recipients. The Link’s Achiever program recognizes top African American male scholars who have achieved academic excellence. This year, 54 achievers from 30 schools participated in the 31st Annual Affair of Honor held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
Some of the achiever high schools represented included Bishop Montgomery, Brentwood, California Academy of Math and Science, Harvard-Westlake, Hawthorne Math and Science Academy, Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies, Loyola, Palisades Charter, Rolling Hills Preparatory, St. John Basco, Summit, and Westchester High just to name a few.
Kamaal, son of Dr. and Mrs. D.C. Nosakhere Thomas, is a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club. Last year, as starting forward, he helped Redlands Adventist Academy garner a CIF Championship. Kamaal has taken advance placement, honors, and college courses at Chaffey and Stanford University ESP.
Kamaal has served as a Water Safety Instructor for City of Fontana, and CEO of “In the Zone” Tutoring. In addition to his entrepreneurial exploits, Kamaal has volunteered for the Obama Phone Bank, his church—Rainbow Community Praise Center International (Fontana, CA), Brother II Brother’s, “Day of Mentoring” at UCR, Dorothy Grant Elementary (Fontana, CA), and at Norton Space and Aeronautics Academy in San Bernardino.
Kamaal is a Gates Millennium Scholarship finalist and has received merit scholarships to attend Drexel, Hampton, Howard, UC Davis, UC Riverside and St. John’s Universities. Next year, Kamaal will study economics and international studies as he pursues his career objective to become a lawyer and an elected official.
