Opposition Rally on Saturday Sponsored By Claremont United Church of Christ
The rally is in response to the presence of the National Socialist Movement in Claremont that same day.
The event at Memorial Park is a voice of opposition to the one of hate, fear and intolerance that issues from National Socialist Movement. It will be non-confrontational. It is designed to offer the community an opportunity to come together around values of love, peace and inclusion.
Rob Patton, Senior Pastor of Claremont United Church of Christ, stated, “Though the rally at the park is being organized by the students of the Claremont Colleges, in order to obtain a permit to assemble by the City of Claremont, these students needed a certificate of insurance. In a show of trust in us, they asked for our assistance. In a show of trust in them and God, we responded. After consultation with the United Church Insurance, who carries our policy, and with the lay leaders of your church, we extended to the students—and thus the community—our help in this way.”
The event will include live acoustic music, speakers and an opportunity to gather with others and enjoy a picnic in the park.
“Let us send a strong message to those who would seek to gain a foothold on Foothill,” added Patton. “We are a people of love; we are a people of peace; we are a people of acceptance and we will not be bullied.”
