“Everyday, my daughter came home from camp excited for more,” said the mother of a 7-year-old “Growing Up Serrano” camper last week. “The camp is secure, educational and the kids simply love it,” agreed the parent of a 9-year-old girl who attended the camp. “It’s value for money and the staff are extremely supportive and friendly.”
When asked to comment on their own experiences, the campers listed making friends, feeling like they learned much about the Serrano Indian people, and making things such as traditional baskets, playing traditional games, ki’ich shelters and more. “She talks from the time I pick her up until we get home in Riverside,” said the mother of a 9-year-old camper.
“It’s fun! We learned about the Serrano people and made games and stuff like they did back then,” commented a 9-year-old camper. “I also love learning about Native American symbols and the live animals.”
A half-day summer camp is also available for children ages 4 to 7 accompanied by an adult. This three-day mini camp will take campers into a simpler time, when kids made their own fun and imagination ruled. Children and their special adults will gather in the imaginary attic to play with old-fashioned toys and games together, make ice-cream, play musical instruments, and build old-fashioned fort. Each parent, grandparent, or adult may bring up to three children to the camp and play alongside with them. The camp will be from 8:30am to noon. The cost is $75 per child and $65 for museum members. Adults are free.
Campers must come dressed in comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes—sandals or flip-flops are not allowed. Food and beverages are not provided, so campers must bring their own lunch and snacks.
