Renovation of Fontana High School Football Field!
Fontana, California (July 1, 2013)–Mayor Acquanetta Warren and the City Council are pleased to announce the City of Fontana, San Bernardino Board of Supervisors Chair Janice Rutherford, and the Fontana Unified School District partnered together to find a solution to renovate the Fontana High School football field.
In February 2013, the Fontana Unified School District was forced to close down the Fontana High School football field due to safety reasons and lack of funding to refurbish the football field. The Fontana City Council understood the need for athletic fields and the detriment to the city if this football field remained unusable. Board of Supervisors Chair Janice Rutherford, after hearing about the need also had a strong desire to partner with the City and Fontana Unified School District to find a solution. The three joined together to complete a $250,000 refurbishment of the Fontana field.
“I am so grateful for the partnership we have with Supervisor Rutherford and the Fontana Unified School District. This is a great example of what can be accomplished when we work together as a team for the youth of this wonderful community,” added Mayor Acquanetta Warren. “Football and FOHI go together like America and apple pie, and the football tradition will continue on the high school’s home field this year thanks to the combined efforts of the City, School District, and County of San Bernardino,” Rutherford said.
The Fontana field construction is expected to be completed for the 2013 fall football season. The renovation of this field will allow the continuation of the Fontana Steelers Football tradition.
