$50,000 Grant from S. Mark Taper Foundation Provides Technology for VNA Point of Care –
Technology Reduces Cumbersome Paperwork
Riverside, CA – The Visiting Nurse Association of the Inland Counties (VNA) has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation, a private family foundation dedicated to enhancing the quality of people’s lives by supporting nonprofit organizations and their work in our communities.
VNA provides a complete continuum of professional nursing services to patients in their homes or places of residence. It is one of the oldest non-profit providers of home care and hospice services in Southern California, covering San Bernardino, Riverside and North San Diego counties.
The grant will provide VNA’s hospice nurses with point-of-care technology that will allow them to create and maintain patient medical records online. This reduces the tedious manual administration of patient information and will allow VNA’s hospice nurses to continue to focus on patient care. The goal of VNA hospice services is to provide quality care, comfort and choice for patients, their families and loved ones at the end-of-life.
The new equipment will help VNA nurses respond more quickly to changes in a patient’s physical and emotional condition and to communicate more efficiently with physicians. According to Mike Rusnak, CEO of VNA, “As a non-profit, we try to reinvest in the communities we serve. We are grateful to the S. Mark Taper Foundation for their generosity in helping us update our infrastructure so that we can continue to focus on quality of care while leveraging technology to communicate with physicians.”
