School Supply Drive to Help Local Children
San Bernardino, CA – Arrowhead United Way’s Young Leadership Council is organizing a school supply drive to help local children who cannot afford school supplies. The drive is to take place at Court Street Square at E and Court Streets in Downtown San Bernardino on June 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Council is encouraging individuals and local companies to get involved and help the children who desperately need it.
There has been a very positive response to the upcoming event. Major partners who have made a commitment to the drive are Cal State San Bernardino, the City of San Bernardino, FedEx, Inland Empire Job Corps, Kohl’s, Pat & Oscar’s, Sam’s Club, San Bernardino School Employees Federal Credit Union, Target, and U.S. Bank. In a passionate plea to community members, Judi Penman, President, San Bernardino Area Chamber, quoting former Chamber President Larry Graham, said, “Never decide to do nothing because you can only do a little; every bit helps.”
After the school supplies have been collected, they will be distributed to children in the five school districts in Arrowhead United Way’s service area: San Bernardino, Rialto, Colton Joint, Rim of the World, and Bear Valley. “The goal is to remove this unnecessary barrier to education, so that all children in the community have an opportunity to learn,” Skip Schneider, Resource Development Manager, Arrowhead United Way said.
The Young Leadership Council consists of young professionals between the ages of 21 and 40 who support the Council’s mission to be actively engaged in the community, inspire philanthropy, promote volunteerism, and partner with the next generation of decision-makers.
