Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Workforce Development Center. The workshop will be held at the Workforce Development Center, 44199 Monroe Street in Indio. Because the facility closes at 5:30, it is necessary to be at the workshop before 5:30.

In the workshop, participants will learn information to help the pre-venture entrepreneur determine the feasibility of their small business idea in the current market. The discussion centers on business plan development, entity formation, funding opportunities, and the steps to start a business.
Facilitator for the workshop is Kim Scanlan. Mrs. Scanlan is the Lead Training Coordinator and Business Counselor for CVWBC, and has been with the organization for nine years. Prior to discovering her love for small business, she enjoyed a long and happy career in the hospitality industry, 25 years of it as the manager of a fine-dining restaurant.

In the workshop, participants will discuss the changes in the digital marketing landscape. Participants will discover what has changed over the last five to ten years, and the trends that are important to their business success.
Facilitator for the workshop is Erin Hollins Pappas, a digital marketing specialist who has helped numerous brands engage audiences. Her clients have included Public Storage, Ryland Homes, Lakeshore Learning, Globe Life Insurance, Desert Regional Medical Center, and The Desert Sun Media Group.

Grant Writing 101 will introduce the fundamentals of grant writing which includes terminology, locating grants, writing the grant, and preparing budgets. Attendees will gain an overview in grant research, writing strategies, and the skills required to submit a winning foundation, state, or federal grant application.
Facilitator for the workshop is Michelle Skiljan. Ms. Skiljan serves as Executive Director of the Inland Empire and Coachella Valley Women’s Business Centers and in that capacity writes grants on a day-to-day basis. She first launched the Inland Empire Women’s Business Center in the fall of 2003 and then expanded the Women’s Business Center program by launching the Coachella Valley Women’s Business Center in the fall of 2006. The Women’s Business Centers have trained over 10,000 workshop participants, counseled 1,500 business owners and have created community economic impact of nearly 10 million dollars.

The key focus of the workshop is in attracting perfect-fit clients by utilizing the Law of Attraction, and in working with those ideal clients with focus and intent. Participants will learn what to say to keep clients engaged, how to overcome doubts, and how to get the desired results in every transaction.
Facilitator for the workshop is Marty Marsh of Transformational Business Design. Marty became an entrepreneur in 1995, and works with clients to infuse their marketing with three things: creativity, innovation, and strategy. He graduated with a BA in printing, then to work at a now well-known start-up, USA Today. This “dream job” ultimately fueled his entrepreneurship, as working in the corporate world proved the catalyst he needed.
