The Fontana Community Senior Center offers a new transportation service to the Senior Community

Fontana, California,  The Mayor and the City Council invite the community to an informational transportation meeting on Wednesday April 25, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. This informational meeting will review the latest addition to the City of Fontana’s senior transportation program, a fixed route shuttle system.

 
The transportation program is the perfect opportunity for Fontana residents over the age of 55 to run their errands, go to medical appointments and visit the senior center to socialize, all at an affordable price.
For many years the Fontana Community Senior Center has offered a demand response, ride share program for individuals 55 and older, as well as for disabled residents of Fontana. This curbside-to-curbside system provides one round-trip per day (Monday through Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.–12 p.m.) for individuals with a valid senior transportation van pass.

 
The new fixed route aspect of the senior transportation program will begin on Monday, April 30, 2012 and will operate Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. This new shuttle will stop at multiple senior apartment complexes in central Fontana including Loveland’s Sonrise, the Courtyard senior apartments, Dino Papavero, the Village senior apartments as well as the Plaza and the Gardens senior apartments. Stops will also include businesses such as Wal-Mart, Stater Bros., the Lewis Library and the Fontana Community Senior Center.

 
A transportation van pass is available for $25 for a full year and will allow users one round-trip per operational day for the demand response and/or an unlimited number of trips on the fixed route shuttle system. The transportation program also offers one-way rides for $1 to those who qualify for the program. All riders must be over the age of 55 to participate; exceptions can be made for caregivers who need to ride the vehicle with a senior. “The goal of the senior transportation program is to help older adults gain some of the autonomy that many of them have lost when they became unable to drive themselves around,” says Community Services Coordinator, Tiffany Starks. “We hope that seniors can see the opportunities that are open to them with this new program and take full advantage of all that senior transportation has to offer.” The Fontana Community Senior Center encourages community members to stop by the transportation information meeting on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. at 16710 Ceres Avenue, Fontana, CA 92335 to get an idea as to what the new system is and how it will benefit the community.
