The University of Redlands Visiting Writers Series: Pamela Painter
The Creative Writing Department is pleased to present another exciting Visiting Writers Series event, the Edith R. White Reading by short story author Pamela Painter.
Pamela Painter’s newest collection of very short stories, Wouldn’t You Like to Know, has been praised by many, including novelist Alice Hoffman, who claims that Painter “has perfected the short short.” Painter is the author of this and other story collections including Getting to Know the Weather, which won the GLCA Award for First Fiction, and The Long and Short of It. She is also the co-author of What If? Writing Exercises for Fiction Writers. Her prize-winning stories have appeared in The Atlantic, Harper’s, and other journals, and in anthologies such as Sudden Fiction and Flash Fiction. A recent story was recorded on a Norton CD titled “Love Hurts,” and still others have been presented on stage by Word Theatre, Stage Turner, and Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre. Painter is the recipient of three Pushcart Prizes and two prestigious grants. She lives in Boston and teaches at Emerson College.
Please join us for a reading by Pamela Painter on Thursday, February 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Hall of Letters 100, to be followed by a reception and book-signing with the author. This event is free and open to the public.
Upcoming events in the Visiting Writers Series include Manuel Muñoz and Lisa Alvarez from Sudden Fiction Latino on March 31 and the annual Redlands Review/Senior Portfolio student reading on April 14.
