Young Leadership Council’s Lunch with the Leader
San Bernardino, CA – The newly formed Young Leadership Council (YLC) of Arrowhead United Way (AUW) successfully held its first Lunch with the Leader event with Dr. Albert K. Karnig, President, Cal State San Bernardino. The event was held at and sponsored by Cal State San Bernardino, John M. Pfau Library.
The goal of the Lunch with the Leader event is to connect up and coming local young professionals with established leaders from the community. Through this networking opportunity, young professionals learn the importance of becoming community leaders and how to climb the ladder to the top in their respective fields.
During the event Dr. Karnig spoke to young leaders about the challenges of being a leader and how to overcome obstacles. He stated that leadership is an art form and is good judgment born out of good experience. He emphasized two important characteristics that leaders must have: to be reasonably articulate and have optimism. He said, “Leaders have the ability to ‘walk backward’ to look at their failures, assess why they failed, and move forward with lessons learned.”
The YLC consists of young professionals between the ages of 21 and 40. The mission the YLC is to be actively engaged in the community and inspire philanthropy and volunteerism by collaboratively partnering with the next generation of decision-makers in a unique blend of service, education, and social and networking activities throughout the year.
AUW encourages individuals to become more involved in the community by giving, advocating, and volunteering. For more information about how to become involved with AUW, please call (909) 884-9441 or visit www.ArrowheadUnitedWay.org.
