ONTARIO, Calif. – Fire and law enforcement officials will be issuing citations for the illegal use of fireworks within the City of Ontario this July 4th, with fines up to $1,000 for the first offense.  Property owners may be cited if they allow fireworks to be possessed, stored, or used on their property.

Possession of ANY type of fireworks, including “safe and sane” fireworks that are sold in neighboring communities, is against the law in the City of Ontario and is prohibited year round.  In the event a fire occurs due to the use of fireworks, the responsible persons are likely to face criminal charges and be held liable for damages.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, on a typical 4th of July, fireworks cause more fires in the U.S. than all other causes combined.

The Ontario Fire Department wants everyone to enjoy a SAFE 4th of July holiday, and encourages residents as well as visitors of Ontario to take advantage of Ontario’s numerous holiday events and activities as an alternative to using fireworks.

The City of Ontario is sponsoring an Independence Day Parade, the Blast at the Bandstand, and an All-States Picnic beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Euclid Ave-Downtown.  In addition, the City of Ontario is also sponsoring a free public fireworks display at Westwind Park starting at approximately 9:00 p.m.  For more information please call Ontario Parks & Recreation at (909) 395-2020.

Persons caught possessing and/or using fireworks within the City of Ontario will have their fireworks confiscated and destroyed, as well as being issued a citation and fine of $1,000.
