How do older technologies stack up against today’s electronic gadgetry? Find out in an interactive presentation, “How Did They Use That,” with San Bernardino County Museum Curator of History Michele Nielsen at the San Bernardino County Museum on Friday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m. The presentation is included with paid museum admission.
“Come explore objects from our study collection and try your hand at a few older technologies. While we enjoy communicating with our hand-held phones today, people living in the past communicated well, too—just in a different way,” said Nielsen.
“When you think it over, people living long ago wanted many of the same things we want today like clothing to wear, hair styles that reflect the latest trends, good-tasting food, and ways to communicate with other people,” she continued. “In the past, people did many of the same things we do today, just using different tools. Those tools are the focus of our presentation.”
“And we’ll get ready for our upcoming April exhibit, ‘Fabrics of Our Past,’ too. Have you studied a pair of socks lately? What are the socks made out of? Do you know how they were actually woven?” said Nielsen. “We’ll also take a look at making wearables the old-fashioned way.”
