Arts & Music Festival at CSUSB on May 13th
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. –California State University, San Bernardino’s annual Arts & Music Festival (AMF) will be held on Friday, May 13 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
The AMF will start at the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA) and will take place in the art studios, the museum, on Camphor Walkway, in the Library, and in the Lower Commons. There will be something for everybody including a juried art walk displaying local and student artists’ works in all mediums and live demonstrations in glass blowing, ceramics, and forging.
In celebration of CSUSB’s 50th Anniversary, RAFFMA will be hosting “Time + Place: 47 Years of Art Faculty at CSUSB”. This exhibition will feature the artwork of more than 30 past and current faculty members spanning 47 years of teaching and creating. According to Nate Dubbs, glass blower and one of the Founders of the AMF, “We are opening the studios to let people experience the process of creating art. Seeing it from its inception can really make a difference in an art lover’s experience,”
For music fans there will be two stages. The Santos Manuel Student Union Program Board will present the “Best of the Bands” on the M-Lot stage. The bands will compete and guests will be invited to vote for their favorite band. The winner will be featured at the annual CoyoteFest which is the student’s end-of-the-year celebration. On the Lower Commons stage, the Music Department will kick off their concert with the CSUSB Latin Combo (10 piece band), and will follow with the CSUSB Latin Jazz Ensemble (big band) with guest artist Bobby Rodriguez. The headliner for the evening will be Salsa Caliente. According to Program Director Bob Knop, “The AMF gives our students a chance to perform with professional musicians who have much experience to share.”
There will also be a children’s area with arts and crafts to encourage kids to be creative. At the Pfau Library there will be chalk art, and a library exhibit. The Health Center will offer Mandala coloring and guided meditations to help guests learn the art of relaxation. And of course Flash mobs from the Theatre Department may appear at any time. Food booths and beverage stations will be located throughout the festival.
The Arts & Music Festival Committee is made up of representatives all across campus including: Iwona Contreras, Alicia Corral, Carol Dixon, Nate Dubbs, Bob Knop, Scott Kruger, Stephanie MacLean, Monica McMahon, Richard Meza, Julie Nichols, Diana Nieto-Godinez, Andrew Oaks, Jacob Poore, Diana Reyes, Tom Ruvolo and Jharlin Saloma.
