Cal Poly Pomona Receives 2017 Sustainability Innovation Award
The U.S. Green Building Council’s Los Angeles Chapter (USGBC-LA) has awarded The Cal Poly Pomona Collins College of Hospitality Management the 2017 Sustainability Innovation Award in the category of Health and Well-being for Building 80, which was certified LEED Gold. The recognizes building projects that exceed the standardized rating system requirements and exhibit excellence in design and construction.
Completed in 2015, Building 80 is a 12,000 square-foot state-of-the-art academic facility that includes two natural day-lighted lecture rooms, two instructional support rooms, a student commons, a grab ‘n go café, as well as five naturally ventilated offices for graduate faculty members, a conference room, and two group study rooms. Additional sustainable features include, low e-glass windows, energy efficient mechanical systems, LED lighting throughout, as well as drought tolerant landscaping.

The project team, consisting of The Collins College of Hospitality Management, Cal Poly Pomona’s Facilities Planning Design and Construction, HMC Architects, GLUMAC, and Gilbane Construction, will be recognized at the USGBC-LA’s 13th Annual Green Gala on November 30, 2017 in Los Angeles. The prestigious industry event draws more than 500 of the region’s green building leaders.
“We are truly honored and exhilarated to have been selected,” says project manager Andrew Naranjo. “It signifies another major milestone accomplished in this project by further validating the sustainability commitment that The Collins College of Hospitality Management continues to make to the campus community.”
