Chaffey College to Host International Motorcycle Conference July 26-28
Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Motorcycle enthusiasts can learn about biker culture, safety and rights during the 8th annual International Journal of Motorcycle Studies Conference at Chaffey College, opening Thursday, July 26.
The event, which includes talks, panel discussions, an art exhibit and film screenings, will be at Chaffey’s Rancho Cucamonga campus. Registration is $20, which covers lunch on Saturday and a tote bag, but all events are free and open to the public.
“It’s both a visual and intellectual exploration about the motorcycle and the culture that surrounds it, including historical significance and development,” said Sheila Malone, associate professor of theatre arts. Malone has been a motorcyclist for 25 years and is editor-in-chief for the motorcycle journal.
The conference will kick off at 5:30 p.m. Thursday with an art exhibit preview called “Faster, Faster! The Art of Motorcycle Culture” in the center for the arts building. Stacie B. London, a motorcycle land speed record holder and former art director for the Museum of Contemporary Art, will serve as keynote speaker on Friday July 27. Bobby Haas, author of “Shakespeare and the Brothers: Embedded with a Band of Bikers,” will be keynote speaker on Saturday July 28. Both talks will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. in the center for the arts building A, room 211. Panel discussions will follow, covering motorcycle culture, engineering, safety and rights.
The conference will culminate on Sunday with an optional group ride to Mount Baldy. Riders will meet at 9 a.m. at Klatch Coffee, 8916 Foothill Blvd., Rancho Cucamonga.
