Cucamonga Service Station Lection at Ontario Museum of History & Art
Ontario, CA – Join the Ontario Museum of History & Art and Route 66 Inland Empire California Association (IECA) on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 6 PM, to learn about the history and restoration of the Cucamonga Service Station, with a presentation by Luana Y. Hernandez, Vice President of the Route 66 IECA.
Built in 1915, the Cucamonga Service Station, located on Foothill Boulevard in Rancho Cucamonga, was once bustling with travelers who stopped to refuel on the legendary U.S. Route 66 highway running from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California and through the Inland Empire area. The 100 year old service station was designated a City of Rancho Cucamonga Historical Landmark in 2009 and is one of the few original structures remaining on Route 66 in California.
After many years of neglect, the community pulled together and sought to restore this piece of history. Route 66 IECA’s objective is to promote the preservation of historically significant landmarks and promote tourism within the Inland Empire. Come hear how this organization brought the historic service station back to life and turned it into a must-see destination for the Route 66 enthusiast. This is a free event held in conjunction with the Mother Road Revisited: Route Sixty-Six Then and Now exhibition. Reservations are required. To make reservations call (909) 395-2510.
