Grant Writing 101: Simplifying the process with Michelle Skiljan
Workshop entitled, “Grant Writing 101: Simplifying the Process!” on Tuesday May 3rd, 2016 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm their Palm Desert office.

Grant Writing 101 will introduce the fundamentals of grant writing which includes terminology, locating grants, writing the grant, and preparing budgets. Attendees will gain an overview in grant research, writing strategies, and the skills required to submit a winning foundation, state, or federal grant application.
Facilitator for the workshop is Michelle Skiljan. Ms. Skiljan serves as executive director of the Inland Empire and Coachella Valley Women’s Business Centers and in that capacity writes grants on a day-to-day basis. She first launched the Inland Empire Women’s Business Center in the fall of 2003 and then expanded the Women’s Business Center program by launching the Coachella Valley Women’s Business Center in the fall of 2006. The Women’s Business Centers have trained over 10,000 workshop participants, counseled 1,500 business owners and have created community economic impact of nearly 10 million dollars.
Quickbooks Premiere, The World’s Most Popular Accounting Software, A Four-Part Series With Casey Koenke
Series entitled, “Quickbooks Training Series” on Wednesdays from May 11th to June 1st, 2016 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Workforce Development Center in Indio.
The workshop will be held at Workforce Development Center at 44199 Monroe Street in Indio, in the Skills Lab. Because the facility locks its doors at 5:30, it is necessary to be in and seated at that time. Cost for the workshop is $150 with online registration. To register, please go to www.cvwbc.org. In this hands-on beginner’s course, participants will be instructed in 2014 QuickBooks on how to use the software properly, common pitfalls to avoid, and best practices when using the software. Participants will be provided with computer access, software access, and workshop materials. In order to fully benefit from this series, participants must have basic computer skills.
Facilitator for the workshop is Casey Koenke, who holds a B.A. in Business Administration with a Concentration in Finance from CSUSB, and currently is an entrepreneur herself, as well as working for Coachella Valley Women’s Business Center and another local business.
Business Basics: Starting Out Right with Kim Scanlan
Workshop entitled, “Business Basics: Starting Out Right” on Wednesday, May 11th, 2016 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at their Palm Desert office.
In the workshop, participants will learn information to help the pre-venture entrepreneur determine the feasibility of their small business idea in the current market. The discussion centers on business plan development, entity formation, funding opportunities, and the steps to start a business.
Facilitator for the workshop is Kim Scanlan. Mrs. Scanlan is the Lead Training Coordinator and Business Counselor for CVWBC, and has been with the organization for nine years. Prior to discovering her love for small business, she enjoyed a long and happy career in the hospitality industry, 25 years of it as the manager of a fine-dining restaurant.

Workshop entitled, “Introducción a las Redes Sociales Para tu Negocio” on Tuesday, May 17th, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at their Palm Desert office, is an to social media as a business marketing tool.
In the workshop, participants will learn basic information about the various forms of social media, and how to utilize them in your business marketing plan.
Facilitator for the workshop is Jose Ramirez, of Jose Ramirez TV, who is a Life Coach who specializes in social media, personal branding, and small business. Mr. Ramirez is bilingual and works with clients in both Spanish and English.

The Coachella Valley Women’s Business Center is a program of the Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship at Cal State San Bernardino in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The CVWBC is a grant-funded program which provides free business counseling, free and low-cost workshops and events, and mentoring designed for women business owners, but available to all.
