Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino Asks The Inland Empire To Take Action To End Hunger
Local Food Bank Calls for Help During Hunger Action MonthTM
Riverside, CA – This September the Feeding America Riverside|San Bernardino (FARSB) food bank, together with the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks, will mobilize across all 50 states in an effort to bring an end to hunger.
Hunger Action Month is designed to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of the fact that 41 million Americans, including nearly 13 million children, are food insecure, according to the USDA.
In the Inland Empire, more than 400,000 people struggle with hunger and may not know where they’ll find their next meal. That number includes 1 in 5 kids who may only be getting meals from the free and reduced lunch program provided by their schools during the school week.
This September, the Hunger Action MonthTM campaign will focus on the strong connections between hunger and health.
“Food-insecurity is a huge epidemic in the Inland Empire, and we are dedicated to ensuring that those in our community have access to enough healthy food to reach their full potential, especially children, struggling to succeed and learn in school on an empty stomach,” said Lori Butler, FARSB Philanthropy Director. “We need those in our community to stand up and show support during Hunger Action Month by getting involved and working to make a meaningful impact.”
Hunger Action Day®, the second Thursday in September, is a day where efforts across the country are focused for greater impact.
Over the month, the community is asked to engage in activities aimed at aiding hunger awareness, including:
· Volunteering at the FARSB Distribution Center in Riverside, CA
· Conducting a food drive with their friends, family, colleagues, and teams
· Signing up for a Succeed & Feed Corporate Team Building Days (available upon request)
· Leaving a testimonial on the FARSB site
· Making a donation online www.FeedingIE.org/donate
· Donating at local Norms Restaurants as a part of the Make Caring the Norm campaign
· Donating to the in-store Hunger Is campaign at Vons, Albertsons, and Pavilions locations

About Feeding America Riverside|San Bernardino
Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino began in 1980 as Survive Food Bank in response to the increasing concern about the dual problems of hunger and food waste in the Inland Empire. Today, FARSB is the primary source of food for over 400 nonprofit organizations, distributing over two million pounds of food monthly to emergency food pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, high-need elementary schools, halfway houses, senior centers, residential treatment centers, shelters for the abused, after school programs and group homes. More than 125,000 men, women and children each month rely on the food bank’s distribution center to make ends meet. Individuals, government entities, businesses, and local organizations and groups all have the power to make a difference.
