Placemaking & Profit: Finding Balance in Workforce Housing in the Inland Empire
National Innovative Communities Conference
Ontario, Ca – We know that for individual communities to thrive, the businesses within those communities must be competitive, and the people employed by the businesses must earn enough at the very least to afford life’s basic necessities, but when workers find themselves with no choice but to move further and further away from their place of employment in order to afford housing or live in stable neighborhoods, quality of life measures suffer.
When we face such trade-offs, communities ultimately pay the price. In this plenary session, our panelists will explore how we can assure that workers have better options so that communities can enjoy the type of economic stability that is conducive to both a high quality of life and good business. Workforce housing is a challenge that will require the cooperation of several sectors to solve, and it is critically important for members of the housing, government, and business communities to recognize their shared interests and work together.
