Registration open for County Museum Summer Day Camp session
Registrations are being accepted for San Bernardino County Museum Summer Day Camp sessions in late June and July. Each week-long session from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. invites children ages 7 to 12 to engage with topics related to our cultural and natural history while expressing their individual creativity.
All day camp sessions are held at the museum. Each session is five days, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Campers must be at least 7 years old and have finished first grade. The fee is $155 per child ($135 per child for members of the Museum Association). Summer Day Camp registration forms are available at the museum’s front desk, on line at www.sbcounty.gov/museum or can be requested by calling (909) 307-2669. A limited number of scholarships are available by application; contact the museum’s education division for information.
Session 1, June 24 to June 28: Exploring Animals Around Us. Using real scientific tools including sweep nets, binoculars, microscopes, and other lab equipment, campers will get up close and personal with animals big and small while recording observations and collecting data. This session is sponsored in part by Nikon Instruments, Loma Linda University, and the National Science Foundation. Enroll by 4 p.m. June 18.
Session 2, July 8 to July 12: Playing with History. Explore what life was like in San Bernardino County in the past. Beginning with the Serrano Indian People and flying headlong into the 1960s, investigate how people worked and played and how lifestyles have changed over time. Enroll by 4 p.m. July 2.
Session 3, July 15 to July 19: Paper Creations in Art. Express yourself through the art of paper crafting. Campers will create colorful piñatas, origami, books, collages, puppets, make paper, and even contribute to the “Paper Trails” exhibit in the museum. Enroll by 4 p.m. July 9.
Session 4, July 22 to July 26: Make It, Play It, Take It, Share It. Create toys and games using simple materials for maximum fun. From games of chance to games of skill, play indoors and out—including water fun. See how much unplugged fun you can have in a week! This session is supported in part by Sketch Labs. Enroll by 4 p.m. July 16.
Session 5, July 29 to August 2: Playing with History. Explore what life was like in San Bernardino County in the past. Space is limited in each session, and early registration is encouraged. All materials and activities are included in the fees; campers bring their own sack lunch and snack.
