SB County Museum Announces Reading Club for Teens
A new book reading club for teens will meet for the first time at the San Bernardino County Museum on Tuesday June 14, at 4pm. Organized by the Education Division, the group will discuss “The House of the Scorpion” by Nancy Farmer, and this discussion is free to the public.
“Teens love to read, and often have novel ideas to complement the stories they like,” said Curator of Education Jolene Redvale. “This is an opportunity for kids to share what they liked and didn’t like about the book, and to talk more about the subject with others.”
This book tells a story about Matt, who grows up isolated in a house amid the poppy fields. He does not know he is a clone until he breaks free of his early caregiver. “Teens like this kind of story because it allows them to use their imaginations in a variety of ways,” continued Redvale. “It incorporates science, relationships, and a bit of fantasy. I hope teens will want to participate, even if they haven’t read the book yet. Sometimes, after hearing others talk about it, you want to rush out and get the book yourself. That’s what happened with me when I heard about this book!”
Open to everyone and free of charge, the club will read books on a wide range of subjects that appeal to readers age 13-18. Topics will vary and participants will have the opportunity to suggest titles for future meetings. Parents are encouraged to help their teens decide if a book will interest them. For more information, contact Redvale at (909) 307-2559 ext. 252 or email@example.com.
