The show’s theme celebrates the hot summer nights and starry skies in the Mojave Desert and is expressed in photography, two-dimensional and three-dimensional work by a variety of desert artists. The show will be on display through September 27.
In addition to the exhibition at the visitor center, Art In Public Places will spotlight one of the murals this summer—Mural #19, Good Times at Smith’s Ranch—painted by local artist Tim O’Connor in 2002. The mural can be seen on the south facing wall at 6296 Adobe Road. The mural celebrates the Smith family and their homestead endeavors in the 1930s, which included an ice house, ice cream parlor, and eventually outdoor movies that continue today as drive-in movies under the desert night sky each weekend.
Art in Public Places exhibitions are presented by the Public Arts Advisory Committee (PAAC) of the City of Twentynine Palms. For more information, contact PAAC liaison Jon Beard at (760) 367-7562 or email: jbeard@29palms.org.
The Twentynine Palms Visitor Center and Art Gallery is open daily, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 73484 29 Palms Hwy. at the corner of Desert Queen Avenue in downtown Twentynine Palms, CA.
