Coachella Valley Wide Employment Expo set for September 20th

Indio, CA – The Valley Wide Employment Expo is slated for Sept. 20 at the Fantasy Springs Casino Auditorium beginning at 9 am and is open to all at no cost.

About 100 employers will be on site to discuss job opportunities with you. Please visit www.desertjobexpo.com for tips regarding preparation. This web site also has a list of employers which is an excellent opportunity for you to look up available positions and target resumes and cover letters accordingly. Handing off a resume to an employer at a job fair with their name already on it is a great way to make a positive first impression.

Remember to:

• Dress to impress. Collared shirts will be the norm but you can set yourself apart with sharp-looking dress clothes. Spend extra time on your hair. Polish your shoes.
• Customs and courtesies – “Good morning, sir.” “Good afternoon, ma’am.”
• Shake hands and make eye contact with people.
• Network with employers and job seekers alike.
• Try to leave the kids at home.
• Practice your elevator speech which should be an introduction about yourself and your skillset. “Hi, my name is Clark Staehle and I have 13 years’ experience in the underwater basketweaving industry. I’ve supervised as many as 4 at a time and am looking for a place to bring my experience to bear. When can we sit down?”
