RCCD Board Swearing-In Ceremony of Trustees Figueroa and Hedrick is Today
Riverside, CA – Riverside Community College District Trustee Mary Figueroa was elected to a sixth term in office and will be joined by newly elected Trustee Bill Hedrick from Corona.
Figueroa, who represents Trustee Area 3, was first elected to the Board of Trustees in November 1995. During her tenure as an RCCD trustee, Ms. Figueroa has served several leadership positions, including president, vice president and secretary. Additionally, she serves in leadership roles at the state and national levels by serving on the Board of Directors of the California Community College League of California and the national Association of Community College Trustees. Figueroa is retired from the State of California Department of Corrections after 21 years at the California Institution for Men in Chino where she was a correctional counselor. She represents Trustee Area 3 which includes parts of Riverside north of Arlington and Alessandro avenues, and the east part of Jurupa Valley.
Hedrick, trustee-elect for Trustee Area 1, joins RCCD after serving as a trustee for the Corona-Norco Unified School District for 22 years. He is currently employed by the California Teachers Association as a field staff advocating for students, families and educators in the high desert communities. Hedrick has spent his professional life in public education as a teacher in Los Angeles, Orange, and Rialto unified school districts and ESL instructor in the Rancho Santiago Community College District. He also served as president of the Rialto Education Association. Trustee Area 1 covers Eastvale, Norco, and parts of Jurupa Valley and Corona.
“Both Figueroa and Hedrick bring both experience and energy to the Riverside Community College District Board of Trustees,” said Chancellor Michael Burke. “We are very fortunate to have these dynamic community leaders as trustees as we continue to strengthen the RCCD.”
The swearing-in ceremony of Trustees Figueroa and Hedrick is today, November 29 and will take place on the RCCD District Office Rooftop Terrace at 5:30 pm. The trustees formally begin their 2016-2020 terms at the regular Board of Trustees committee meeting on December 6.
