San Bernardino County Museum Open Labor Day Monday
The San Bernardino County Museum will be open on the Labor Day holiday, Monday, September 3, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regular museum admission fees apply.
Museum visitors will enjoy three floors of exhibits focused on the cultural and natural history of inland Southern California and the southwest, including archaeology and anthropology, geology and paleontology, history, and biological sciences. Also on view are three special exhibits.
“Art and Artifact,” showing in the museum’s Fisk Gallery, juxtaposes works of art from the museum collections with three-dimensional artifacts from the history collections that relate to the art works. “Art and Artifact” will close on November 4.
“The Fabrics of Our Past” in the museum’s Crossroads in History gallery features textiles and fashions from the 1860s to the 1960s with costumes, accessories, and historical photographs from the museum collections. The exhibit will be open through January 6, 2013.
“Crazy Cactus” is a traveling exhibit from the Main Street Murals Environmental Arts Youth Program in Barstow that features colorful sculpture and photography. This exhibit closes on September 30.
“The county museum is usually closed on Mondays to allow staff to work on exhibit installation and other ‘behind-the-scenes’ projects,” said Jennifer Reynolds, museums spokesperson. “But we are open to the public on five holiday Mondays during the year because we’ve found that many of our visitors enjoy a learning vacation right in their own backyards.”
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. General admission is $8 (adult), $6 (military or senior), $5 (student), and $4 (child aged 5 to 12). Children under five and Museum Association members are admitted free. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. If assistive listening devices or other auxiliary aids are needed in order to participate in museum exhibits or programs, requests should be made through Museum Visitor Services at least three business days prior to your visit. Visitor Services’ telephone number is 909-307-2669 ext. 229 or (TDD) 909-792-1462.
