Annual Fontana Arts Festival and Sunset on Sierra to take over Downtown Fontana streets on July 30th
Fontana, Calif. – The City of Fontana Community Services Department will be hosting the Fontana Arts Festival in Downtown Fontana, Saturday, July 30th on Sierra Avenue between Seville Avenue and Orange Way in conjunction with the Sunset on Sierra event. The festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. and continue until 10:00 p.m. The Arts Festival and Sunset on Sierra combined will provide event-goers an opportunity to re-imagine Downtown Fontana, giving a preview of potential street improvements that can be implemented as part of the Active Transportation Plan and General Plan update, while enjoying art, music, local eateries and fun, family-friendly activities.
The Fontana Arts Festival is partnering with the Sunset on Sierra event to close down Sierra Avenue to vehicular traffic between Seville Avenue to Orange Way to showcase a variety of artists, entertainment in an open streets pedestrian and bicycle-friendly atmosphere. The programming will feature a 3D Chalk Art display, a 3D Glow in the Dark booth, live on-stage musical performances by The Jay Leno Show opening band the Soulville Band, saxophonist Jason Klunk, Afro-Latin band QUITAPENAS, muralist Armani Carter, children’s programming, free interactive art activities, caricature and balloon artists and more.
Sunset on Sierra will showcase temporary, complete street installations on Arrow Boulevard, that make it safer, easier and more enjoyable for people to walk and bike. The City hopes to receive valuable feedback from the community to develop their Active Transportation Plan which will guide future plans for street improvements. Temporary installations at Sunset on Sierra will include:
- Protected bicycle lanes- a designated traffic lane for cyclists, separated from vehicular traffic by a physical barrier (bollards, curbs, planters, etc.) making it comfortable for all ages to enjoy.
- Curb extensions- also known as bulb-outs, a traffic calming measure used to extend the sidewalk and reduce the crossing distances for pedestrians.
- Parklets- an extension of the sidewalk that converts one or more on-street parking lanes to create more usable public space.
Come experience art, music, food and more at the Fontana Arts Festival and Sunset on Sierra as you bike, walk, skate and play along Sierra Avenue. Don’t forget to mark this date on your calendar and add this fun-filled creative experience to your passport to adventure in Fontana.
