Bear Valley Community Healthcare Upgrades Mammography Technology
Bear Valley Community Healthcare District Now Offering State-of-the-Art Genius™ 3D MammographY™ Exams from Hologic:
BIG BEAR, CA – Bear Valley Community Healthcare District is excited to offer Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exams, developed by Hologic, Inc., a worldwide leader in Women’s Health. Utilizing advanced breast tomosynthesis technology, Genius exams are clinically proven to significantly increase the detection of breast cancers, while simultaneously decreasing the number of women asked to return for additional testing.*
The Bear Valley Community Healthcare District has been working on upgrading the mammography machine for several years, and thanks to the tireless work of our Radiology, Facilities, and several other departments, the vision is becoming a reality. After months of research and site visits, BVCHD decided on the Hologic Mammography Machine. Hologic is a leading global healthcare and diagnostics company, they strive to make advances toward greater certainty for healthcare providers by giving them cutting-edge technology that makes a real difference. Hologic machines move to narrow the gap between doubt and confidence and work to achieve both incremental and transformational progress to improve patients’ lives.
In conventional 2D mammography, overlapping tissue is a leading reason why small breast cancers may be missed and normal tissue may appear abnormal, leading to unnecessary callbacks. A Genius exam includes a three-dimensional method of imaging that can greatly reduce the tissue overlap effect.
The Hologic Mammography Machine is transforming breast cancer screening and diagnosis to ensure Radiologists can find even the most invasive cancers at the earliest stage possible. From full-field digital mammography systems first introduced more than a decade ago, BVCHD’s new machine will now offer groundbreaking 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™. This machine is proven to find cancers earlier and reduce callbacks, Hologic’s 3D MAMMOGRAPHY™ technology is becoming the new standard of care in leading breast centers around the world.
Large clinical studies in the U.S. and Europe have demonstrated the positive benefits of a Genius 3D Mammography™ exam. The largest study to date on breast cancer screening using the Genius exam was published in the June 25, 2014 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Findings include:
- A 41% increase in the detection of invasive breast
- A 29% increase in the detection of all breast
