Corona, CA – The Superior Court of California, County of Riverside, is pleased to announce that the Corona Courthouse will reopen services to the public on January 7, 2019.

The two-courtroom courthouse, located adjacent to Corona City Hall on Buena Vista Avenue, was closed to the public in July 2012 due to state budget reductions, with the exception of limited services for traffic and other minor offense matters on Fridays.

However, with additional funding and two judgeships provided in the state Budget Act for fiscal year 2018-19, the court is able to expand access to justice by reopening the courthouse on a full-time basis. With the dramatic population growth occurring in Riverside County, and its proximity to Orange County, opening the Corona Courthouse will expand services to the many residents in the western portion of the county and elsewhere.

The Corona Courthouse will be open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Calendars will consist of limited civil, civil harassment, infractions, small claims, and unlawful detainer (eviction) cases. In addition to judicial and clerical staff, the location will provide self-help and collections services to assist litigants.

RIVERSIDE SUPERIOR COURT

Riverside County completed construction of the Corona Municipal Courthouse in 1975 and in 1992, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors voted to consolidate the Riverside and Corona Municipal Courts. The courthouse was later renamed the Corona branch of the Western Riverside County Municipal Court. With the passage of Proposition 220 in 1998 and a vote of the county’s judges, municipal and superior courts combined to become the Superior Court of California, County of Riverside.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the courthouse, including Assembly member Sabrina Cervantes and court and local officials, took place on October 5, 2018.
