$174,000 In Funds for San Bernardino Homelessness
The County of San Bernardino Community Development & Housing Department Provides Funding to Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County to Help the Homeless, Including Veterans
San Bernardino, CA – Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County (CAPSBC) continues to partner with the County of San Bernardino Community Development and Housing Department (CDH) to provide homeless services. On October 16, 2018, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved continued funding in the amount of $174,000. The funding will be used to provide Emergency Shelter, Rapid Rehousing, and Homelessness Prevention services. CAPSBC will work in collaboration with CDH, the Inland Empire United Way’s Coordinated Entry System (CES), the Housing Authority of County of San Bernardino (HACSB), and other services providers – as part of a comprehensive system – to provide homeless services such as motel vouchers, security deposits and rental assistance to individuals and families experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness.
To continue and further efforts to end homelessness amongst the veteran population, $95,000 of the total funding has been earmarked specifically for veteran assistance. CAPSBC has partnered with HACSB to provide permanent housing via security deposit assistance to veterans at the newly constructed, affordable housing project called Loma Linda Veterans Village (project). The Veterans being assisted by CAPSBC are also being assisted with long-term rental assistance under the HUD Veterans Assistance Supportive Housing (VASH) Program. HACSB, in coordination with the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) manages the VASH qualification process.
The CAPSBC Family Development Program has provided assistance to more than 20 veterans during the first quarter of the contract that will operate for the period of July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2020. Patricia L. Nickols-Butler, Chief Executive Officer, said, “CAPSBC is grateful to CDH for the funding to assist Veteran families as they transition to safe and stable permanent housing.”
